Welcome to GWeb !
GWeb has been designed to make it easy to keep track of updates for, and new releases of, useful drivers, tools and applications.
Sometimes, you may find that GWeb hasn't been updated for a week or so - I'll only update the site when there's something worth posting, so you don't have to trawl through a load of dross to get to what you want.
What's Missing ?
I can only track the hardware and software that I know you want to know about... So, if there's something you'd like added to the site, just mail me with the details and I'll see what I can do ! If you know of a Web page covering the product, send me the URL too...
GWeb Appearance and Links
The site index on the left is powered by JavaScript (cheers, Dr. Planet), and the format of all the pages are controlled using style sheets (Dr. Planet again !). These should be fine in Internet Explorer 3.0 or later, but I don't know what Netscape will do with the styles. Basically, if you're not getting a black background, you're not getting to the style sheets - in which case, this site probably looks ugly ...
Most of the links you find in GWeb will open within GWeb, so that you can easily move between pages without leaving the main website. The only exceptions are (a) the product logos at the top-left of each page, and (b) the lists of Useful Sites you'll find on, for example, the Quake page. These two styles of link will replace GWeb in your browser.
GWeb is best viewed in a flippin' high resolution. Any frames-capable browser should do.
Downloading Files from GWeb using FTP
In general, I try to post links to the fastest download I can find for each of the products and utilities GWeb covers. This will often be an FTP link (i.e., starts with 'ftp://') to a site I get a good transfer rate to. My favourite mirror - the SunSITE Northern Europe - features heavily throughout GWeb. Unfortunately, the FTP client component within Microsoft Internet Explorer doesn't seem to be too hot (how mad is that ?), so I'd strongly recommend getting a seperate FTP client and use that to download the links posted in GWeb.
I'd still recommend Alan Chavis' FTP Explorer to anyone - to grab a link from GWeb with FTP Explorer:
Alternatively, you could use GetRight's click monitor - just use the links as usual and GetRight takes over to perform FTP or HTTP downloads.
Having problems with GWeb ?
If you have any problems with any of the links or pages you find in GWeb, let me know. I'll do my best to get them fixed as soon as I can...
